Master of Science in Quality Engineering

American industry is competing in a world economy that rewards those who produce the best products at the lowest cost. Our industries need employees who know how to improve product quality and to lower the costs of producing it.

To solve problems of quality and cost, an engineer needs a special set of problem-solving tools and skills. The Lehigh University Master of Science in Quality Engineering (MQE) program is an opportunity for working engineers to acquire these tools and skills plus the techniques needed for continuous improvement. It is intended for industrial personnel who are in technical and/or management positions, and who are responsible for activities related to quality in their respective organizations.

Qualified students can earn a Master of Science degree in quality engineering without writing a thesis or taking a comprehensive examination. The program is designed to accommodate students who work full time. Courses are transmitted to work sites, which can be located anywhere in the continental USA, by satellite. Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in engineering (any discipline) or science.

The College of Engineering and Lehigh University each impose a set of requirements that candidates must satisfy to complete the MQE degree.

MQE Requirements

All candidates must complete thirty hours of course work - fifteen hours of core courses and fifteen hours of elective. The core courses, which all candidates take, are listed below:

Required Core Courses

Any offered IE or MSE course, if not a core course, is an acceptable elective, and at least nine hours of the electives must be courses, which have prefix IE or MSE. Up to six hours of the electives may be any graduate course or courses that the candidate’s advisor approves.

Up to nine hours of credits earned at other institutions may be used to satisfy degree requirements, if transfer of credits is approved by the registrar.

All MSE courses are acceptable elective, including all offered by satellite. The Lehigh MBA program delivers satellite courses that are acceptable as out of major electives.

University Requirements

For MQE, any IE course or MSE course is in major.
